Some weeks are stacked with wins.
Others quietly remind you how good things actually are.
This one managed to do both.
Between a short-lived injury scare, a long-awaited new bike, and the final riding day from Stone King, it ended up being a solid reminder that contrast is everything.
When the BAD Makes the GOOD Hit Harder
Earlier this week I had a strange knee pain show up out of nowhere. It escalated fast. The kind of pain that sends your brain spiraling into worst-case scenarios and future plans getting wiped off the calendar.
By that evening, I was already mentally preparing to cancel the next few months.
Then I slept.
I woke up the next morning with full, pain-free movement. No stiffness. No lingering discomfort. Justโฆ normal. And it felt incredible.
It was such a simple thing, but it hit hard. I honestly canโt remember the last time feeling โfineโ felt that good.
It was a reminder that for some reason, we humans seem wired to need discomfort, struggle, or hard effort before we can truly appreciate the other side. Feeling good. Smooth momentum. The quiet wins we normally overlook.
If youโre dealing with something frustrating right now, this might be the setup for a future moment of deep appreciation. That perspective doesnโt erase the struggle, but it can change how you carry it.
Iโm doing my best to keep that gratitude feeling tucked away for the harder days.
A New Toy Iโm Very Stoked On
After nearly two years of casually hunting for the right deal and slowly convincing Emily that this purchase was absolutely necessary, I finally picked up a used dirt jumper.
This bike is less about riding trails and more about sharpening skills.
Almost every high-level or professional mountain biker Iโve been lucky enough to talk with has said the same thing: the skills they developed on a dirt jumper translated everywhere else. Balance, timing, bike control, confidence in the air.
Itโs the kind of bike you can ride in places a full-suspension mountain bike just doesnโt shine. Pump tracks. Driveways. Parking lots. Backyards. Skate parks. Anywhere you can play with movement instead of smashing through terrain.
Iโm excited to spend more time on it and see how those skills carry back over to trail riding.

The Final Stone King Riding Day
Weโve reached the final riding day from Stone King Club Week in France and Italy.
Day 6 turned out to be one of the hardest days of the entire trip. Tired legs, thin margins, and the kind of riding where focus matters more than strength.
There was a small hiccup with the initial upload, so the video is being re-uploaded clean, but it should be live by the time youโre reading this (or very soon after).
Once thatโs wrapped up, weโve still got one or two Italy videos coming, followed by a few full-on van life projects Iโve been excited to make for a while. Plenty more to come.
Final Thought
If things feel good right now, pause for a moment and really feel it.
And if they donโt, trust that the contrast might be setting you up to appreciate whatโs next even more.
Thanks for reading, and as always, thanks for being here.
Ciao,
Joe & Emily
