Something that is great about staying in Steamboat Springs is that there are a number of other great ski/snowboard mountains within a couple hours. So, if Aspen, Winter Park, or Copper is supposed to get a lot more snow than Steamboat… We will just take a quick drive there before the storm hits, and ride it out getting all the powder turns we can along the way!
Why we drove from Steamboat
That is exactly what we did this day at Aspen Snowmass. Over a 3 day period Aspen was projected to get 26” of snow, where Steamboat was only getting 15”. So we rolled the dice and made the drive down to Aspen.
Our time at Aspen Snowmass
Over the last 3 years we have never had a bad day at Aspen Snowmass. Literally every time we have been there they have had good snow and low crowds. I bet the lower crowds are because Aspen is a little harder to get to from Denver than some of the other mountains. Which is great for us!
On this day we had about 4” of new snow overnight, and then it dumped most of the day, making each run feel like it was a fresh powder run. Free refills!! I think that we easily got over 30″ in that storm, and we snowboarded 3 days in a row!

– We’ve had good luck overnighting in the back parking lot. If you do this… please be quite and respectful of the leeway we are getting here.
