UPDATE: A lot has changed over the last year with regards to COVID and the different approaches the resorts are taking to keep you on the mountain. Please use the links provided in this post to verify the information is still correct. If you find an inconsistency please let us know.
With the creation of the IKON Pass people (like us) are looking for RV Camping Near IKON Pass Ski Resorts. The IKON Pass (check it out here) has made snow chasing and ski vacations more affordable, and actually more fun! You can show up and head straight to the lift. No more ticket lines, or having to plan ahead. You just scan and ride!
This post was created for all of you snow chasers that want to know where you can park your rig and walk or get to the pow quickly!
All of the ski resorts listed here are part of the IKON pass (located within the lower 48 states and southern Canada). It includes info about parking at the ski areas and lists the nearest RV camping that operate during winter months.
Bonus Tip: Some states have rest areas that can accommodate large RV’s: www.interstaterestareas.com/map-of-rest-areas

Other valuable Info: Close to the town of Steamboat Springs. Take the bus for FREE to Steamboat Ski Resort, as well as downtown where you will enjoy unique galleries, a pioneer museum, fine dining, a live theater and plenty of shopping!
Vantastic Life Thoughts: We stayed here for 5 nights and took the FREE bus up to the ski resort, to town, and to the CrossFit gym. The bathrooms were clean, they plowed the park frequently, and we even had some packages delivered.
Places to work: We spent a few days working from the Starbucks in town, and the work environment was good with a very friendly staff. The internet speeds were middle of the road for uploading videos. You can also find great people and fast internet at Big Iron Coffee downtown OR the library.
Local Food: If you want to spend a little money on some really good fancy food… we had an amazing dinner at Laundry Restaurant. Or, eat some of the best ramen that we’ve ever had at Joki. It’s still not cheap, but very good! Lastly, one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten is the Ridgeline at the Yampa Sandwich Co.!
Workout: CrossFit Steamboat is 1.4 miles from the KOA, and has classes and open gym times. Or you can grab a workout and a soak in the hot springs at Old Town Hot Springs. They also have a functional fitness area that allows dropping weights (for you hard core lifters and CrossFitters).

Vantastic Life Thoughts: We stayed in the Winter Park G Lot for 3 nights during a CO snow storm. It was quiet, and super easy to grab a buss or walk to the mountain lift lines.
Places to work: We found the fastest internet at The Perk coffee, which also had good coffee, AND was attached to a gear store. So, don’t go there unless you’re ready to pick up some new gear ;-). The internet speed at The Perk was a VERY inconsistent 22 down and 14 up.
Local Food: If you like Colorado style pizza… Hernando’s is a must stop! We recommend the Hawaiian with the original crust and veggie with garlic crust.

Other valuable Info: There are free busses across the highway and also plenty of Uber and Lyft’s in the area. You are a long walk or short drive from grocery stores, places to shop, a movie theater, and much more!
Vantastic Life Thoughts: We’ve now stayed here two separate times for a total of almost 2 weeks. It’s a nice little place that is a 30-40 min drive to a bunch of IKON Pass resorts. If you want to use the (hotel style) gym, it’s a pain in the butt because they require someone to be in the office while you’re using it (even though it’s not connected to the office). That being said, you are 1 mile away from CrossFit Park City which is owned by CrossFit legend Chris Spealer, and we’d highly recommend going there.
Internet: WiFi – Bad; Verizon – 123 mbps down / 20 mbps up; AT&T – 24 mbps down / 13 mbps up
Places to work: You are a 1 mile walk to one of the best Whole Foods that we’ve been to, which has blazing fast internet, great food, and a bar to watch games. We’ve spent many days working from this Whole Foods.
Local Food: So far, we’ve only eaten at the Whole Foods.

Vantastic Life Thoughts: We stayed here for 4 nights and took the $1/person bus up to the Jackson Hole ski resort. The bathrooms were clean, we almost got stuck getting to our site because of the un-plowed snow, but shifting into 4×4 took care of it.
Places to work: The resort WiFi is ok, with speeds around 4-10 mbps down and 1-4 mbps up (depending on how busy the network was). If you need faster internet… Cowboy Coffee in town has you covered, or you can get medium good speeds (30 mbps down/8 mbps up) at the Jackson Whole Grocer & Cafe. Cellular hot spots also work, but note that AT&T does far better than Verizon in Jackson.
Local Food: You are in for a treat if you like pizza or burgers. Liberty Burgers has one of the best burgers I’ve ever had (The Nooner)! And the pizza at Hand Fire Pizza is outstanding. Please note that every time that we go out to eat in Jackson, we’ve done some very strenuous activity beforehand.
Workout: About a 1 mile walk from the Fireside RV resort is the Teton Sports Club and CrossFit Jackson Hole (same place). It’s a great place with CrossFit and globo gym equipment. There are also indoor and outdoor hot tubs! 🙂

Although this isn’t an exhaustive list of ski resorts and RV parks in the U.S. and Canada, it aims to serve as a guide RV Camping guide Near IKON Pass Ski Resorts for people looking to get as many powder days as possible!
We’ve strived to find the best of the best in skiing and RV camping put together in one concise post. Keep in mind there are many more RV parks that are seasonal and are not included here. Safe and happy travels to everyone! Thanks for reading!
PS if you have any camping spots that you think we should include in this post please let us know by commenting below or shooting an email to joe@allaroundjoe.com.
PPS Special thanks to Jarrett Lavac who did all the hard work on this one! If you need a great copywriter I can put you in touch.

Hi Joe, I’m want to use a lot of these places this winter to ski camp. Were there a lot of people at the campgrounds, or were they pretty empty? Just wondering if I should start booking early.
Thanks,
Mark
Joe Bauer
Hi Mark, It depends on the area that you want to camp.. Last winter most were pretty busy and required a bit of planning during the weekend and less so on the week days. Do you have any locations in mind? We might be able to give you more specific info.
Mark Betancourt
Thanks for the response! My plan is to spend some time time in taos, salt lake, and jackson hole. I also want to spend a lot of time in Truckee at the Coachland RV Park.
I can easily book months out, I’m not in the business of chasing storms haha.
Joe Bauer
You can stay overnight in the Taos parking lot if you’re self contained… just bring some level because a lot of the parking is on a slant. The RV places in town are also nice, and should be reserved in advance.
In Salt Lake we had to stay at the RV resort in Park City because the winter camping in Salt Lake wasn’t very nice.
Definitely reserve the Fire Side RV spots far in advance in Jackson Hole. And you can only stay there for a week at a time. Kind of a bummer.
I’m on the move right now but if you need specifics let me know.
Matthew Reue
I just talked to security at Winter Park Resort. Very friendly. You can stay free in your van/rv overnight at Parking lot G. Take the shuttle to ski.
Joe Bauer
Awesome! Thanks for the info, I’ll add that.
Ginette Antoniak
Super helpful in our planning stages for next year! Have 5 months off work purchased Ikon pass and will be traveling in our 20ft trailer that we are setting up for winter with woodstove.
Joe Bauer
SWEET!!! Have fun! Maybe we’ll see you on the road!
Nicholas Schedeler
Sugarloaf resort in Maine on ikon pass allows parking in their lower D lot. No hookups and can only take one parking space.
Joe Bauer
Thanks for the info!
