Going into Day 3 of the Stone King Rally, we honestly didn’t know what to expect.
After how hard Day 2 had been, waking up to fog, cold temperatures, and a massive day on the bikes didn’t exactly inspire confidence. Legs were tired, minds were still processing what we’d already been through, and the mountains ahead looked serious.
And yet… somehow… Day 3 turned into the best day we’ve ever had on our bikes.
This was the kind of day that reminded us why we do events like Stone King in the first place. Not because it’s easy. Not because it’s comfortable. But because the hardest days often become the ones you remember forever.

A Cold, Foggy Start in the High Alps
Day 3 started high in the mountains, wrapped in thick fog and cold air. Visibility was limited, and the trail ahead felt unknown. From the very beginning, this day demanded focus.
The riding immediately felt different than the previous days. The trail cut across exposed alpine terrain where mistakes carried real consequences. This wasn’t about charging as hard as possible — it was about precision, awareness, and trust.
Trust in your bike.
Trust in your skills.
And trust in the line ahead.
Every section required full attention, and every pause in the fog revealed massive alpine ridgelines that reminded us just how small we were out there.
Exposure Changes Everything
There’s something unique about riding exposed trails high in the mountains.
It’s not always the steepest terrain or the most technical features that make it challenging — it’s the mental side. Narrow trails, long runouts, and the constant awareness of what’s below you force a different kind of riding.
On Day 3, exposure was a constant companion.
There were sections where slowing down was the smartest move. Sections where committing to the line mattered more than speed. And moments where the trail demanded calm, controlled riding instead of aggression.
It’s mentally exhausting in the best possible way.

The Kind of Suffering That’s Worth It
Day 3 wasn’t easy. Not even close.
There were long climbs, hike-a-bike sections, and plenty of moments where fatigue from the previous days made itself known. But this was the good kind of suffering — the kind that feels purposeful.
The kind where:
- You’re tired, but still smiling
- You’re challenged, not broken
- You know you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be
Somewhere along the way, we both realized it:
This might be the best day we’ve ever had on our bikes.
Not because everything went perfectly — but because everything felt meaningful.

When the Fog Lifts and the Views Open Up
One of the most unforgettable parts of Day 3 was the way the fog would lift just long enough to reveal the landscape around us.
Suddenly, the entire valley would open up. Endless ridgelines. Trails cutting across mountainsides. Views that felt almost unreal.
Those moments were brief, but powerful. They gave just enough perspective to remind us why all the effort was worth it.
Stone King has a way of delivering those moments when you least expect them.
From Serious Alpine Riding to Pure Fun
Just when we thought the day couldn’t offer anything more, Stone King delivered the perfect ending.
After hours of high-alpine riding and mental focus, the final descent dropped us straight toward town. Flowing trails, jumps, speed, and pure fun — the complete opposite of the exposed ridgelines we’d been riding earlier.
It felt like a reward.
And then, somehow, we finished the day riding through an old fort before rolling back into town.
If you tried to plan a better ending, you probably couldn’t.
Stone King Day 3 Ride Stats
This was a massive day by any standard:
Distance: 24.5 miles
Climbing: 4,500 ft (1,372 m)
Descent: 11,300 ft (3,444 m)
Big miles. Big vert. Even bigger memories.

Why Day 3 Was the Turning Point
Day 3 was more than just another stage of the Stone King Rally.
It was a turning point.
After the grind of the previous days, this one reframed the entire experience. It reminded us that the hardest days can also be the most rewarding — and that sometimes the days that start with the most doubt end up becoming the most special.
This is the day we’ll talk about years from now.
