(Two Must-Try Spots for Mountain Bikers and Foodies)
Nelson, BC is a dream destination for anyone who loves two things: trails and treats.
Whether you’re ripping down Newtsac, grinding up Mountain Station, or exploring the vast MTB and hiking trail networks in the area, you’re going to work up a serious appetite. Lucky for you, Nelson punches way above its weight when it comes to food.
We recently spent a few days riding and exploring from a Hillside Campground just outside of downtown, and these two restaurants quickly became our go-to post-ride refuel stops.
🍕 Marzano – For Pizza That Rivals Italy
If you love a good wood-fired pizza, Marzano is a must.

Everything here is high quality—from the crust to the toppings to the chill atmosphere. It’s the kind of pizza where every bite makes you slow down and appreciate the craft. Not overdone. Not greasy. Just perfectly balanced flavors from a well-run kitchen.
Pair it with some family and friends, and you’ve got yourself a post-ride reward that almost makes up for that leg-burning climb (hopefully you have an e-bike!).
Don’t miss:
- Their classic Margherita if you’re a purist
- Any seasonal pizza on the menu—trust the chef – the Butter Chicken was fantastic
- Their Funghi pizza was our fave!
🥩 Broken Hill – Smoked Brisket Done Right
This place smells amazing before you even walk in. Sorry for the lack of photos, we were too entranced by the food!
Broken Hill serves up simple, perfectly-executed brisket (and sides) from the smoker—every bite tastes like it was built with intention. No gimmicks. No heavy sauces. Just well-prepared meat, mashed potatoes (with meat sauce gravy), and coleslaw, all with flavors that actually make sense.
We loved that they didn’t try to overdo anything. It was clear that someone who loves food designed it. We both had the brisket and would get it again!
Top tips:
- Brisket with mashed potatoes and coleslaw: 10/10
- Sit outside if you can snag a spot—it feels great on summer evenings
- Also a great place to chill with a drink after evening laps (if that’s your vibe)
Why This Matters (More Than Just Food)
When you’re on the road chasing trails and van camping your way across the map like we are, good food hits different.
Nelson delivered. Between the beautiful lakeside views, the trail access right from town, and these incredible meals—we couldn’t have asked for a better stop on our BC trip.
If you’re a mountain biker, hiker, or traveling food lover heading to Nelson, make Marzano and Broken Hill your first two stops after a day outside. Your legs will thank you. So will your stomach.
Honorable Mention
The Kootenay Coop Grocery Store is VERY good if you are looking for high quality food you can cook in your home, van, or RV! This is where we ate most of the time.
