When it comes to mountain biking destinations in Utah, Richfield might not be the first place that comes to mind, but the Telegraph Trail just changed my perspective. We kicked off our adventure in Richfield with high winds overnight, but that didn’t deter us—this area and its trails are absolutely worth the trip.
Starting the Telegraph Trail
The Telegraph Trail offers an awesome climb to warm up, and it’s clear that a lot of thought went into the trail’s construction. The initial ascent is smooth and well-built, giving you time to soak in the scenery as you ride. Midway through, we even got a bit of snow, which made for a unique experience. Thankfully, the dirt held up, but it could get slick if there’s too much moisture. Even with the light snow, the rideability remained strong, adding a bit of adventure to the climb.
The Fun Stuff: Telegraph Trail Downhill
The downhill sections are where Telegraph really shines! With each drop and corner, I found myself wishing I could ride it all over again to nail each line perfectly. There are features that cater to all levels, from beginner-friendly lines to more advanced jumps. One thing is for sure: you’ll want to come back for multiple runs to fully explore the different trails and features.
Camping Options in Richfield
For those staying overnight, Richfield has some great camping options, from free campsites that you can find on iOverlander to more comfortable paid options. Fishlake National Forest has several free dispersed camping spots for those who don’t need hookups and want a more rugged experience close to nature. If you’re after a few more amenities, the Richfield KOA is a solid choice, offering showers, electricity, and proximity to town. Both options put you within a short drive of the Telegraph Trail.
Bike Shuttle Services
If you’re here for the downhill, local shuttle options can take some of the effort out of the climbs. Richfield Bike Shuttle is one option offering shuttle services for mountain bikers looking to ride the Spinal Tap trail. The Spinal Tap trail is like the Telegraph Trails big brother, and should definitely be ridden if you’re in the area!
Final Thoughts
Riding the Telegraph Trail was a blast, and I can’t recommend it enough. Whether you’re looking for a day ride or an extended stay with camping and multiple trail days, Richfield has plenty to offer. The views are stunning, the trails are well-maintained, and it’s definitely worth the trip. If you’re in the area, make sure to check out the Telegraph Trail if you want to pedal and Spinal Tap if you’re looking to shuttle—They are both GEMS!!
