If youโve been following along with the Stone King Rally series, you already knowโฆ this isnโt your average mountain bike trip.
Day 4 was supposed to be big.
It turned into one of the hardest days weโve ever had on a bike.
Between a never-ending hike-a-bike, a mid-ride brake issue, and terrain that just kept getting steeper and more committing, this was one of those days where youโre constantly asking yourself:
๐ โAre we really going to make it through this?โ
๐ฅ Watch the Full Video
It Justโฆ Didnโt End
The day started hard and never really let up.
We hit a hike-a-bike section that just kept going.
And going.
And going.
At some point, it stopped feeling like a transition and started feeling like the actual ride.
Loose rocks, steep grades, carrying bikes for long stretches โ the kind of effort that drains you way faster than pedaling ever could.
And the whole time, youโre wondering if the descent on the other side is going to be worth it.

Brake Problems at the Worst Time
Right when things were already feeling toughโฆ
We started having front brake issues.
Not the kind you can ignore.
Not the kind you want to deal with in steep, exposed alpine terrain.
We stopped. Tried to fix it.
Did what we could trailside.
But thereโs always that lingering question:
๐ Is this going to hold when it actually matters?
That mental side of mountain biking is real โ especially when youโre deep into a day like this.

The Crash (We Both Went Down)
Somewhere in the middle of all thisโฆ
Things went sideways.
Literally.
A quick mistake, the kind that happens when youโre tired and the trail is loose and unpredictable โ and suddenly youโre on the ground.
Nothing catastrophic, but enough to remind you:
๐ This isnโt a casual ride.
Every section demands your full attention.
And Thenโฆ The Descent
Hereโs the thing about the Stone King Rally:
It gives you everything.
The suffering, the doubt, the mechanical issuesโฆ
And then it delivers some of the most incredible riding youโll ever experience.
The descents on Day 4 were:
- Steep
- Technical
- Exposed
- Absolutely unreal
The kind of trails where you have to stay locked in, but also canโt help but look up and take in the views.
And somehowโฆ
It was worth it.

What Day 4 Really Felt Like
This wasnโt just a physical day.
It was:
- Managing fatigue
- Dealing with uncertainty
- Making decisions on the fly
- Pushing through when things werenโt going smoothly
Itโs the kind of day that makes the whole Stone King Rally what it is.
Not easy.
Not polished.
But incredibly real.
Whatโs Coming Next (It Gets Worseโฆ)
If you think this day was toughโฆ
Day 5 takes things to another level.
๐ We have a full brake failure
๐ We canโt fix it
๐ And it turns into a long walk down the mountain
Stay tuned.

Final Thoughts
Day 4 was one of those days you donโt forget.
Not because it was perfectโฆ
But because it tested everything.
And those are always the ones that stick.
If youโve ever been deep into a ride where things start going wrongโฆ
You know exactly what this felt like.
